Director of Diabetes Prevention

Salary Range:$55,000 - $75,000/yr DOE

Description:Implements the standard curriculum designed for the grant-funded YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program. Provides strategic direction, support and guidance to staff and participants in the program.
Duties:Builds relationships within the community to facilitate delivery of the Diabetes Prevention Program;

Develops and strengthens relationships with organizations and the broader health community for direct and indirect sources of referrals;

Delivers results that meet or exceed all outcomes agreed to in the City contract;

Responds to inquiries about the program from the public and medical community;

Screens potential participants and coordinates with referring physicians, as necessary;

Recruits, trains and supervises a staff team of lifestyle coaches who will lead the small groups of participants;

Serves as a Lifestyle Coach as needed;

Ensures that the program is delivered effectively;

Handles all administrative duties associated with the program, including acquisition and/or development of all materials;

Develops a plan for volunteer-engagement;

Capitalizes on fundraising and partnership opportunities related to community health and outreach initiatives;

Develops and implements the program budget on an annual basis;

Manages budget expenses to achieve budgeted income and goals;

Prepares monthly variance reports;

Attends regularly scheduled team meetings;

Attends appropriate and required training courses offered by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio;

Promotes the “YMCA Story” with all involved in the program;

Maintains safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment;

Maintains accurate inventory all equipment related to the program;

Follows accident report procedures and policies;

Achieves program retention and growth goals;

Follows systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff; and

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition or a related field. The successful candidate must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept the YMCA mission. Must have strong communication and relationship building skills, the ability to build community within a group, and have empathy for health seekers. Proven success with behavior modification is important.

The successful candidate must have the ability to manage department budgets and fiscal resources. Previous supervisory skills and experience with training and developing staff (peers and subordinates) is required. Employee must have working knowledge of Mac operating system, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite. This position requires certification of CPR, AED, First Aid, BBP or acquire within 60 days of hire. A Texas Driver’s license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
